Local-first mail for Windows

Your inbox.Under your control.

Northstar Mail is a local-first Windows desktop email client for reading, searching, and sending Gmail messages. It keeps read and unread state synchronized with Google, displays your primary Google Calendar and Google Contacts, and can create an event or contact only when you explicitly choose that action and grant its separate permission.

One focused workspace

The information you need, without the noise.

Northstar is being built around the daily essentials: a visual message reader, dependable local search, and quick access to the schedule and people connected to your account.

Mail that stays in sync

Download and display Gmail inbox messages, search locally synced mail, and keep read and unread state aligned with Google. Compose and send a message only when you choose Send.

Your calendar at a glance

View events from your primary Google calendar. A separate permission lets you create a new event when you choose Create event; Northstar does not edit or delete existing events or send invitations.

People when you need them

Browse contacts from your Google account. A separate permission lets you create one contact when you choose New contact; Northstar does not edit or delete existing provider contacts.

A direct connection

Local-first is more than a label.

Northstar connects from your Windows PC to Google's APIs. TreeByte does not receive a copy of your mailbox, calendar, contacts, or OAuth tokens on a Northstar cloud service.

Provider data remains local

Message, calendar, and contact content is loaded and processed by the desktop app on your PC. There is no TreeByte cross-device mailbox sync.

OAuth tokens are Windows-protected

Google sign-in tokens are encrypted with Windows Data Protection API protection tied to your Windows user before they are stored locally.

Provider access is removable

Remove an account from Northstar to clear its local account record, protected credentials, and loaded app data. Revoke Northstar separately in your Google Account to withdraw the provider grant.

Plain-language privacy

Know what every permission does.

Our privacy policy identifies each Google permission, the feature that uses it, how local data is protected, and how to remove access.
